Jimmy Sekasi Institute of Catering was established in 1989 as a humble private training Institute by the Late Mr. Jimmy Hannington Sekasi who was murdered in 2001 with 9 students while on a study tour in Murchison falls National Park. It's one of the oldest and most prestigious catering Institutes in Uganda. In 1987, the institute moved to its current location in Kabalagala, Kampala. It expanded over the years to become a highly recognized catering institute offering both certificate and diploma courses in Uganda. To date, the Institute still continues to grow under the leadership of Mrs. Grace Sekasi. The institute is dully registered by the ministry of education and sports under the registration number PSS/J/95.
The institute started with a total student population of four participants at a rented room at YMCA Wandegeya offering certificates of attendance in Food and beverage service & sales management. In 2009 the total student population had risen to 304 students enrolled in more than nine different certificate and diploma programmes. These students are now accommodated in a campus building owned by the institute. It has since trained hundreds of Ugandans in the Hotel and leisure industry. These graduates are found in many of the major hotels and other leisure places all over the country. The institute is a non sectarian, non partisan and is mandated to train all people of all creeds. The institute is growing into a NCHE awarding institution with specialized focus in the hotel, catering and tourism training.
The campus is located 3 km to the East of the City center, offering an excellent academic environment; free from city-related disturbances.
